Bisley - overseas connections

The old Bisley Village website had a forum via which many people around the world - but mostly from Australia and the USA - contacted us to find out about ancestors who originally came from the village.
We don't currently have the capacity to operate a forum - we may do, one day - but in the meantime please feel free to contact us via email with any questions you may have. We will endeavour to find someone in the village who can help.

Geoffrey Humble writes from Australia:

One of my ancestors, John Whiting, came from Bisley to Oz to find his fortune in gold, but instead became a grocery wholesaler. His parents were Thomas Whiting and Mary Simpson (both b. 1789, but only Thomas was born in Bisley).
He was a tailor (or one of the various other descriptions) and for reason, travelled to Lancaster where he married Mary and there they had seven children, of whom five survived, one was (apparently) handicapped.
They travelled back to Bisley and had another three children.
I will gladly supply details about these folk if someone is able and interested in doing some research on my behalf.

We have asked Mr Humble for more information, but in the meantime if anyone has any information about John Whiting please email us.
