THE BISLEY NEWS MAGAZINE
- SCROLL DOWN FOR THE LATEST ISSUE
The Bisley News is a free quarterly magazine, distributed by volunteers to around 400 local homes, with copies available to collect at various locations in the village. Additional copies are available to collect from The Bear Inn, Bisley Farm Shop, and The Green Shop.
It is entirely self-financing, through (very reasonably priced) advertising. If you would like to send in articles, details of forthcoming events, photographs or anything else relevant to the village, please email the editor, Susan Vesey via this link, or by inputting editor [at] bisleynews (dot) com.
History
Quite who was the founding editor of what started as an A4 village newsletter is lost in the mists of time. Some recall it was Alison Pope; others credit Alec and Sue Hamilton with Hazel Saunders and Alan Swale following on as editors.
What is certain is that at some point Nick Riches took over.
Susan Vesey stood in for him while he was ill, and then became editor after his untimely death in 2002.
To ensure the magazine’s financial stability, there was an Elizabethan Supper, hosted by John and Elizabeth Cowan at Overcourt, which raised over £2,000.
The Bisley News gradually developed into a bi-monthly 40-page magazine and The Spire, the magazine for All Saints’ Church, was incorporated.
Kate Gibbons was at the helm for a while and was a major asset in introducing new advertisers.
During his ten-year tenure, Colin Hassall made the leap to publishing on-line which has extended the readership internationally.
Another significant change was made in 2023 when the role was split: Debs Restall became editor and looked after the editorial and layout, while Lucy Debrot ensured donations and advertising revenue kept the magazine self-financing.
In 2025, because Debs had a new baby and Lucy’s work commitments had increased this excellent duo understandably decided to step back from the village magazine.
Baiju McCubbins took over the advertising and accounting side and, a quarter of a century(!) after first being involved, Susan Vesey stepped back in as editor.

We’re having technical issues with uploading the Bisley News this month
- pages from older editions keep replacing the newer. It may be to do with
the format of the pages, but whatever the cause we’re trying to resolve it!
